Our Take on Terroir
● 01
In winemaking, terroir (tehr · waar) is the way place leaves its mark— in furniture, it’s no different.
At JSI, our wood carries the quiet strength of Southern Indiana: tight grains, rich tones, and a durability you can feel.
Terroir is the soul of our materials—the climate, soil, and tradition that shape every board of walnut and oak. It’s what gives our furniture depth, character, and a story worth passing on.

Terroir is the soul of our materials - the climate, soil, and tradition that bring out the best in walnut and oak.
Our hardwoods are shaped by the region’s rolling hills, diverse forests, and seasonal rhythms—giving every piece its own quiet story.
For over a century and a half, we’ve built relationships with the forests that surround us. This deep connection to our materials is what sets our craft apart.
Our woodworking techniques have been refined through generations of artisans, each teaching the next what true quality means.
Our furniture carries the quiet strength of the region—refined over time, passed down through generations, and built to last for generations more.
Our roots go back to 1876, when German immigrants brought woodworking traditions to Jasper, Indiana.
